Welcome to Pinch of Healthy, where I teach cooking skills to improve your health through more home cooking.
Why you ask? There are many reasons people learn to cook, but the main reason why you should learn to cook is to improve your health.
Unfortunately, our standard American diet consists of about sixty percent of ready-to-eat foods. These are low nutrient foods with little fiber. While working in the food industry I learned that taste is the number one driver of food choices, alongside convenience. And while these may seem obvious, it surprised me that nutrition wasn’t even in the top three.
Many adults, and kids have never learned how to cook. Therefore, we choose ready-to-eat foods due to lack of knowledge. I’d love to share my cooking skills with you so that you can become a more confident cook and improve your health.

I am a registered dietitian, culinary nutritionist and Martha Stewart wannabe.
I received my Masters in Dietetic Education from Western Michigan and a Bachelors in Dietetics from Michigan State. As an RD who believes food is more than calories, I pursued a certificate of training from the Integrative & Functional Nutrition Academy and I am an ACE certified fitness instructor. With over 12 years of experience in various areas of nutrition; including renal nutrition, the food industry and outpatient functional nutrition, I have found my home with culinary nutrition.
To me, culinary nutrition is a beautiful marriage between the nutrition science (that I love) and the culinary arts (which continues to amaze me). It’s where the rubber meets the road, or more appropriately, when the oil hits the pan!
